Sharks and Rays - Disney Animals

Did you know that, despite their fearsome reputation, sharks are mostly opportunistic feeders—preying on sick and injured animals—which helps keep the ocean healthy. And did you know that some sharks and rays can thrive in both freshwater and seawater.

You can learn all about these awesome creatures up close at the massive aquarium of SeaBase Aquarium in EPCOT. Here you’ll find sandbar sharks, a blacknose shark, spotted eagle rays and many more.

Our massive saltwater aquarium offers a dynamic and complex home to our fish friends.

• A Rich Underwater Habitat: The environment inside the 5.7-million-gallon (21.6-million-liter) aquarium is constantly changing, encouraging our marine animals to explore while the coral reef provides a protected area for them to swim, hide and breed.
  
  
• Feeding… Friendly Not Frenzied: Disney animal care experts train sharks and rays to feed at certain spots so they can be inspected regularly to ensure their health. Training also helps them provide individualized diets.
  
  A bright light is the sharks’ cue to surface for a feast of salmon steaks, bonito filets, mackerel and herring.
  
  The rays enjoy a more intimate dining experience. They’ve been trained to touch their snout to a target. When they do, divers reward them with clams, shrimp and small pieces of fish.
