Giraffes - Disney Animals
Giraffes at Walt Disney World Resort
Native to Sub-Saharan Africa, giraffes are the world’s tallest land animals—and can grow up to 20 feet (6 meters) tall.
You may spot these towering mammals during the following experiences at Walt Disney World Resort:
- Kilimanjaro Safaris, a Guest-favorite attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park
- Savor the Savanna, a privately guided tour
- Wild Africa Trek, a privately guided tour
Giraffes also graze the savannas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge—where you can enjoy an up-close look at our resident giraffes.
Home Away From Home
Here’s a look inside the life of a giraffe at Walt Disney World Resort:
- The Right Terrain: The giraffe habitats are designed to provide the giraffes with opportunities to rest, move, interact and explore.
- Mix and Mingle: The giraffes roam the savanna by day, searching for food alongside a wide variety of species, including wildebeest, springbok and Ankole cattle. This simulates a savanna ecosystem where giraffes share the African plains with a variety of other species.
- Enrichment Feeders: Puzzle feeders and other well-disguised feeders are placed up high for the giraffes to investigate. It’s a great form of enrichment for these daylong grazers.
- Veterinary Care and Animal Training: Animal care experts provide round-the-clock care, using positive training techniques and tasty rewards as encouragement. The giraffes are so comfortable with the daily health check-ups that they participate in their own medical care. Some voluntarily stand on a scale!
Disney Conservation: Saving Giraffes
The wide open spaces of the African savanna are shrinking—and with them, so are giraffe habitats. As the human population grows, giraffes lose their land and access to food and clean water.
The Walt Disney Company is committed to saving wildlife and protecting the magic of nature together as a global community. The Disney Conservation Fund* has supported nonprofit organizations working with African communities to protect wildlife corridors where giraffes and other animals can roam freely to find food, water, shelter and each other.
*The Disney Conservation Fund is supported by The Walt Disney Company and Guests of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, with 100% of Guest contributions matched by Disney and directed to nonprofit organizations. Additionally, Disney covers all costs of managing the fund.
